Courgette and Sweet Corn Fritters
It was the turn of 1SN to cook today and they did a great job from the looks on the Year 4 student faces who got to eat these fritters. Look at all the hands up for students who wanted a second serving.

Winged Warriors
The Year 4 hubs were learning about seed transmission and why it is important for plants to spread their seeds out. To help them remember all the different ways they created winged warriors. Some looked like ninjas, and others more like fairy princesses.
It was great to hear the students explaining at the end of the session about how seeds travel and why.

Potato and Corn Fritters
Today was the first session of cooking for 2017. Our Year 7 / 8's had a training session last week and they did a great job passing on the skills and keeping the Juniors safe as they cooked.
The fritters tasted a bit like baked potatoes off a camp fire.... Yummy!!
The Junior students enjoyed flipping fritters and talking with the Seniors.

Food Forest mulching...
The Year 4 students sprung into action today to spread peastraw around our food forest. We learnt about what seeds need, and how we can stop weeds... we had some very interesting ideas about how we could block the sun to the weeds and how to stop the peastraw blowing away. There was some great active thinking happening.... and some VERY lateral thinking too.
In the end we decided peastraw would be the best and water would be a good way to stop it from blowing away.

Now we just need to dig over the edge bed to grow some silverbeet for the chickens to snack on.
Great work Year 4's

Seed harvesting - Year 4 Hub
Today was the day of the great seed collection by the Year 4 Hub from our Food Forest. Our students looked carefully at the different plants to make sure that we collected the right seeds. We found lots of poppy, borage, yarrow and red clover to keep our bees happy next year. We have made envelopes and labelled these to keep our seeds safe till Spring.
The Year 4's spent a lot of time thinking about why we need bees in our garden.
After we had collected enough seeds Mr McAven weed ate all of the plants down ready for the next stage of the process which will happen in a fortnight.

Garden Club Photo
I have just got hold of a copy of our Oaklands School Garden Club photo. The photographer struggled to fit us all in as we had the tallest and shortest student in the school in our photo.
These student's have worked hard during their morning teas doing lots of different job around our school. Your help is much appreciated.
