Beetroot Relish

Friday was the last cooking session for the year so we shared the food with all the students who have been gardening with us this term. The beetroot relish smelt great and the Juniors loved sharing their productions with the group.

Some of the Juniors have only been at school for 2 weeks. Well done to the Year 7/8's for keeping them safe.

Weed Busters

Who ya going call ?? Weed busters

The Garden Club was out in force at morning tea today despite the cold wind to tackle the weeds behind the Toy Library and in the Scooter park. We didn't get all the weeds but made a big dent in them.

Well done Team!!

Senior Citizen Concert

A large number of students performed today in the concert organised by Mr McCullum but we also had a large number working back stage to prepare some snacks.

Some of the students in reception podded broad beans.

And then some of the Year 7's turned the beans into a dip. It tasted pretty good.

Thanks for all your work and a big thanks to Mr McCullum for organising the concert. It was a huge success.

Keep Christchurch Beautiful Awards

Last night Alex, Victor and Ryan represented Oaklands School at the Keep Christchurch Beautiful Award Ceremony.

Oaklands School's Ivan Rush  won a Caretakers Award and the School won a School Environment Award with a Waste Minimisation and Recycling Endorsement.

These awards are judged by school visits to look at what we are doing at Oaklands School.

We now also have a photo of Mr Rush and his award too.

Beetroot and Chocolate Pikelets

Due to popular demand we made these again. This time there were some chocolate chips as well. The beetroot made them a lovely purple colour.

The Year 7/8's did a great job as usual keeping the juniors safe and also spoke well to the classes we shared kai with. Thanks for your help.

Happy Chickens

The gardening club got stuck into our silver beet beds that had gone to seed.... They loaded them up onto the wheelbarrows and we took them down to the hens.

The chickens loved this, and now we have new beds ready to plant out.

Beetroot and Chocolate Pikelets

Today we cooked beetroot and chocolate pikelets and they were GOOD !!... I think that next time we might need to  add chocolate chips to make them even better!!

The cooks today were students from the Reception  class so some of them have only been at school for a month or so. They did really well. Some of them clearly do cooking at home.

Kynan helped with some of the beetroot preparation and kitchen set up. As a result we took some pikelets  to his class to say thanks. We  also shared kai with Mr Hillary's and Mr Foreman's classes to say thank you for all the organising they have done for the Zone Athletics.

Thank you Hornby Working Mens Club and Mitre 10 Mega Hornby

Worm Farms:

We are very fortunate to have the support of these two organisations for our School Garden Programme. These worm farms were funded from a grant from the HWMC and we also received a large discount from Mitre 10.

Watch this space for updates on how the worm farms are going.

Kynan helped to build the farms on Friday. They are a very interesting design so come and have a look at them.

Super heroes and Princesses

We had all sorts in the garden today tidying. Even though it was dress up day for Literacy Week there was still rubbish to pick up.

We even had a Minion shoveling bark... ( no photo of that sorry!!)

Thanks for the efforts team.
