Beetroot and Chocolate Pikelets

You've heard them talking about the great combination that chocolate and beetroot is on Masterchef so Oaklands School cooks have tested it. There was a resounding "yes" to the taste and the colour looked pretty good too.

Our Year 7/8's kept the Juniors safe and everyone had a great time cooking.

Chicken House...

The chicken house had its regular clean thanks to Isabella and Luke. This is an unpleasant job but they persevered and  got the job done... Well done guys!!

Building a fence....

The Garden Club today helped build a brush fence beside the compost bin behind Room 19. We banged in warratahs and tied the brush on. This was the thatched roof from our Garden Show Candy Cane House.

Cooking 1RP

I had some students from 1RP come and make Sweetcorn and Spring Onion Fritters. We had some great Year 7/8's who worked hard to keep our Junior students safe.

The fritters tasted pretty good and there were lots of happy smiles as they shared the kai with the rest of 1RP and the Reception Hub.

Year 4 Cooking - Apple Crumble!!

Today the Year 4's cooked apple crumble which they then got to enjoy. The students followed the recipes with a bit of help and have even thought of a way to improve the dish... perhaps not quite as much ginger next time... although Mr McAven thought that we just need to serve it with vanilla ice cream!!

The photos showed how well the students worked together taking turns with the knives and graters.  The kitchen in the hall smelled amazing as they were cooking in the oven.

Silver at the Show

Well done to our Garden Club that produced a great garden called " Hansel and Petal". The students involved put in a huge amount of work most of which was in their morning tea and lunch breaks.

We had students at the show over the weekend and they represented Oaklands School incredibly well.  Thanks for all your efforts.
