Strawberry Skyscrapers....?

Thats what the Year 4's started building during Taiao time today. They are going to be extending the Food Forest upwards in order to maximise the growing capacity.

They spent todays session researching how to build and look after strawberry towers and cutting the towers to the correct size. They worked together to get the job done and keep everyone safe. Well done Team!!

Feijoa Ice cream

The Year 0 students started making feijoa ice cream today. They had to cut the feijoas and then scoop out the centre. This is frozen and then in  a week or so we will blend them up with some cream.... voila... ice cream.

As usual our Year 7 /8's stepped up taking great care of our Juniors.

Well done to all involved.

Pumpkin Harvest

The Garden Club had the fun job this morning of hunting for pumpkins in the Pumpkin Patch. Even a bit of rain didn't put them off.

As you can see they managed to find a good pile. We will be able to make lots of pumpkin fritters and soup.

Moving House

Our plastic house has moved from down behind Room 19 to behind the Oscar Rooms. We had some issues with vandalism and the wind funneled through this space. It is now quite sheltered and monitored by cameras.

Thanks Mr Rush for helping to set it up in its new location.

Garden Club in Action

Last Thursday the Garden Club started Term 2 with a hiss and a roar weeding up a storm in our vege garden. The weeds had grown considerably in the holidays and the efforts of the Garden Club got it back on track.

These Junior Students give up their morning tea to come and help me around the school. Their help is much appreciated.

Kumquats and Kowhai Planting

Today in Taiao Time the Year 4's planted Kowhai and Kumquat seeds to row into seedlings which we can sell at the Gala. The students carefully planted the seeds and now will look after them.

We needed to do some research about these plants which we will eventually put into a brochure to give to customers at the Gala.

Great Work Hub 4.

Taiao time- Ribbons and Daffodils

The Year 4 Hub were out in force on Thursday. They made some silver beet seed ribbons which means we can plant some silver beet for our chickens to eat. Students had to fold the paper and paste the seeds  at the correct spacing so that the seeds can grow to their potential.

Then we went out to the Food Forest and did some weeding and planted a daffodil bulb each. I am sure the Forest will look amazing in the Spring with all the beautiful daffodils under the fruit trees.

The Year 4 students worked well and listened really carefully. It was interesting to see all the mushrooms growing at the moment. We just looked at them and left them alone for other people to see too.
